HTTP doesn't have SSL and HTTPS has SSL, which encrypts your information so your connections are secured. HTTPS also has TLS (Transport Layer Security) protocol that HTTP lacks. HTTPS is more secure than HTTP.

HTTP and HTTPS are both protocols. A protocol is basically a way of communication between the web server and the web browser. Starting from the simplest difference between these two terms - HTTP stands for Hypertext transfer protocol and HTTPS stands for Hypertext transfer protocol secure.

It’s not just the ‘S’, these differ in more aspects and one of them is their layer of working. While HTTP is an application layer protocol, HTTPS is a server level protocol. For HTTP to become HTTPS you need an SSL certificate installed from a trusted certification authority.

HTTP stands for Hyper Text Transfer Protocol.
The S (big surprise) stands for "Secure". If you visit a Website or web page, and look at the address in the web browser, it is likely begin with the following: http:///.

This means that the website is talking to your browser using the regular unsecured language. In other words, it is possible for someone to "eavesdrop" on your computer's conversation with the Website. If you fill out a form on the website, someone might see the information you send to that site.

This is why you never ever enter your credit card number in an
Http website! But if the web address begins with https://, that means your computer is talking to the website in a
Secure code that no one can eavesdrop on.

You can similarly check for bank frauds.

Wisdom demands that before your ebanking logins, make sure that the name just before ".com" is the name of your bank. "" belongs to Ecobank ; but, belongs to "some1else.

Another difference between these two is that they both use different ports,

HTTP - Port 80

HTTPS - Port 443

A port is a physical docking point using which an external device can be connected to the computer. It can also be programmatic docking point through which information flows from a program to the computer or over the Internet.

The port 80 doesn’t have any algorithm to encrypt data which  comes in out across it. Http is vulnerable per se

The protocol called HTTPS which can be used to send data in an encrypted manner . So they used separate port 443 which was bind by hashing (MD5 ..etc) algorithm like SSH(port 22).

So any data moving in port 443 , it will encrypt the data according to the hashing algorithm which was bind on the 443 port.
