EFFECT OF SOCIAL MEDIA IN OUR LIVES AND RELATIONSHIP.

EFFECT OF SOCIAL MEDIA IN OUR LIVES AND RELATIONSHIP.

By Dora smart-angel

Who is a friend: A friend is a person whose company you enjoy and towards whom you feel
affection, share secrets with, take counsel from and is free with. It's also an associate who
provides assistance.

Many of us on the social media network have abused the place of true friendship because we
have replaced friendship with social media. We have failed to separate our private lives from the
social media, we have taken social media to be a friend with whom we share our pains and
heartaches, pour out our hearts to,list our life achievements and plot revenge (too bad).

Yes, life comes with its own challenges, heartbreaks will occur, innovation of new problems
everyday but it becomes immature to bring all these things mentioned to the limelight of social
media.

Yes, "a problem shared is a problem half solved" at least that is one of the excuses people
make for sharing almost everything about them with social media but No, that saying is not
100% correct so I decided to coin my own word from this "a problem shared with the right
person(s) and at the right time is a problem half solved but "a problem shared with the wrong
person(s) is a problem multiplied"

When you share your many problems and life achievements on Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat,
Instagram and the likes at that moment of pain, depression, anger and excitement there is this
feeling of relief that one tend to feel but No, it's just a false relief but in the true sense it is an
additional problem you have succeeded in creating for yourself.
You may ask HOW ?
The social media is a home for many all over the world, no matter how small your sphere of
friends are, they too have friends and their friends also have other friends so it turns into a
network where your problems become a public show of immaturity, bringing shame, emotional
and intellectual insult either directly or indirectly, making people to see the weak part of you and
turning it to their own advantage and then we begin to hear stories like he/she took advantage
of me which is no one's fault but your fault because you allowed your emotions drive you
wrongly.

When you share details about your problems on social media, you become an object of pity,
really pathetic and in need of sympathy. Know it that, you can never make true friends on social
media because friendship is beyond texting, exposing your emotional lapses, getting comments
and likes.there is more to friendship than that.

HOW TO SEPARATE YOUR EMOTIONS FROM SOCIAL MEDIA:

1. AVOID COMING ONLINE WHEN YOUR EMOTIONS ARE HEIGHTENED:
when you are angry, sad, bitter or unhappy, stay off Social media and cool off first or better still
talk to a physical friend because you might unconsciously reveal the emotional outburst when
making a supposing innocent post.

2. TAKE TIME OUT FOR DEEP THINKING AND MEDITATION:
When emotions are heightened, it becomes almost impossible to think straight and reasonably.
The social media has made people lose value for deep thinking and meditation because they
just get online and write out, blasting out their emotions.that is what I call acting before thinking.

It is a weakness that needs to be worked upon consciously before it gets you to regrets(had I
known). And if you discover that as your weakness, please let a trusted friend know this so that
he/she can keep you under check. A very good friend of mine was the angel that God used to
help me through it gradually though, it wasn't easy but am glad I have learnt something from my
experience,(thanks bee).

3. DO THE WRITING EXERCISE
An excellent way to overcome this emotional stress is by doing the writing exercise, instead of
displaying on social media, get a pen and a jotter or a diary and write how you feel down as
much as you want and you will be surprised at the miracle it will do to calm you down.

4. DON'T CRAVE FOR THE VIEWS/SUPPORT OF OTHERS ON SOCIAL MEDIA
Nobody knows exactly how you feel,no matter how you try to express it online, many people will
give you their views and advice but the right solution to the problem lies right inside of you, all
you need do is calm down, relax your mind, meditate on possible solutions and BAM! The
solution will come genuinely. Advice on social media will only leave you more angry and
frustrated.

5. TRY TO SOLVE ANY HURTS PERSONALLY WITH THE PERSON/PERSONS INVOLVED
social media is not the offender, your friends online shouldn't be the judge. Trash out any
misunderstanding or trouble personally with the person or persons involved not going all public
because it's not going to be of any help to you.

Don't use social media as a platform for revenge,
slander or shaming someone who has hurt you or is hurting you or for hate speeches because it
will only be indirectly putting yourself to shame and telling the whole world who you really are
not even about the offender but all about you, it speaks about your personality.

Relationships can either be made or Marr on social media, use social media wisely.
