SORO SOKE SHOULD END AT THE POOLING BOOTHS

SORO SOKE SHOULD END AT THE POOLING BOOTHS

By David Damilare

Most youth on Twitter canvassed for total boycott of  APC and PDP candidate in the just concluded Lagos East Senatorial election.  Despite the furious aggressive publicity stunt, there was little or no effect of the Twitter rant. The ruling party candidate Tokunbo Abiru won the election while the opposition party(PDP) candidate Olusola Gbadamosi was the runner up. This beg the question, what is the Soro soke media generation missing out?

Large numbers of youths haven't gotten their PVC. The Nigerian youths need to understand that no nation wins election on social media. To decide the fate of the election, you have to know that your vote count and not, your tweets count. I'm not saying tweets isn't a form of publicity but it would be completely useless if at the end, you were unable to vote.

Poor orientation of the rural class. Most people in the rural areas do not have access to Internet facilities and even if they do, they have limited skills in it's operation. There's a need for door to door  electoral education by the youths in rural communities. This will enable the rural dwellers and city illiterates to understand the manipulative tendencies of electoral candidates or various representatives scheming for another term in office after a woeful performance.

Youths should turn down politicains aiming at using them for their political will. The hope of an underdeveloped Nation lies in the future and the future of a Nation are the teeming youths. The youths should understand that they wield more power than the wreckless old politicians who have piles of corruption cases in the courts. The youth should frown against being used as wilful tools by politicians.

In conclusion, the concluded Lagos senatorial bye election is a warning and an opportunity for teeming youths to fix their mistakes and participate actively in the next general election. Soro soke might have begun on Twitter but it should end at the pooling booths.

Thanks
